Pest Control Tips For Winter Pantry Pest

What you think may be a recent bug infestation, may be just an overlooked one. Without regular pest control treatments, bugs are able to hide well in numerous areas throughout your home.

There has been an increase in calls for a tiny, brown bug being spotted in pantries. The brown beetles feed on the dry goods in the pantry and are generally unnoticed until the stored goods get moved around. Usually the holiday baking brings attention to the beetles, resulting in being perceived as a new pest invasion.

The saw-tooth grain beetle is not only a pantry pest, they will venture to other areas in your home with there is no food.  Fortunately, these bugs do not transmit diseases but can cause significant damage to leather, cotton and wools.

A pest control specialist can remove the beetle infestation with modern products and techniques. Spraying DIY products in pantries or other areas with food can potentially contaminate some items with chemicals and poisons.

Vacuuming thoroughly and clearing out old stored goods can help find the source of the infestation. A good pest control policy to implement in a household is to store packaged goods no longer than 4 months. Use the FIFO rule (First-In, First-Out).

Keep unfinished goods in a secure container (mason jar, thick plastic, metal, etc.) when storing. All crumbs should be cleared and pet foods should be store away.
